Last night was a tough night for me sleeping. I woke up at about 4 AM and started thinking about so much stuff. My mind would not shut off. So I quietly grabbed my IPAD and started to read the newspaper and check on football scores. It turned out that Utah was in a battle with USC, which came down to the wire. So I started texting Travis to see what he thought about it. Sad they lost due to a failed two-point conversion try. I eventually rolled over and fell back to sleep around 6 AM waking up at 8 AM. Good thing I got a little sleep as right now, I'm wiped out. Today was amazing but tiring.
We got up to a yummy prepared breakfast made by Chef Scott. We had a couple of 'hard' roles that we tried to soften with scrambled eggs with stinky cheese, bacon and tomatoes on them. We also had some really good hot chocolate. It was really good.
At around 9:30 AM, we headed out to catch a bus to Ravello, a village of hotels, and shops that sit at the top of the mountain above us. All rides here in buses are amazing...scary...and seem very long. Ravello was amazing. The view from up there was crazy good. You could see up and down the coast with great clarity. The hotels were absolutely amazing and beautiful. After walking around an hour or so, we bought some sandwiches and set out to walk back down the hill. We thought the path would be an obvious one. But at points we were not sure where to go. We wanted to take the path down to Atrani, but we ended up hiking up to Pontone, another village in the sky and then found the path that took us down to Amalifi. At one point, we stopped, ate our sandwiches and used the bathrooms on the trail (well there were no bathrooms...just bushes).
Upon arrive into Amalfi, we immediately jumped on a bus to Positano. This is another coastal village full of shops and stuff. This one had a rather large beach. The interesting thing was that the bus drops you off way above the town and you have to walk down in and then back out. But it was full of beach goers and shoppers. It was really quaint and nice. But we all agree that Amalfi is a bit better for socializing and people watching.
Upon being done with Positano, we started asking where we could buy a SITA (bus) ticket back to Amalfi. Down at beach level, no one would sell us one. They said we had to go up to the shop at the top of the hill. But when we got up there, there was a TON of people in this narrow intersection and no shop to buy tickets. So Scott and I headed down the road trying to find a shop where a ticket might be sold. Finally, I decided to go into a hotel and ask figuring they could speak English. It was winner, winner, chicken dinner. They spoke great English and they had tickets to sell. So we bought and hurried back to the bus stop. Tons of people there. We ended up in line waiting for this crazy bus...about 45 minutes. And it turned out that there was a SITA guy up there selling tickets. Go figure. Fortunately, we got far enough up the line that we got on the first bus. If we had not, we would be still waiting there...at least another hour!
I'm tired of these crazy coastal rides. You have to experience to understand what I mean. Painful. We ended up in Amalfi eating outside on the square. It was a nice evening there. We loaded up on some pastries, milk and chocolate and headed back to our department to make hot chocolate with our pastries. Everyone is waiting for me to complete my blog so we can play some games and have some treats.
My feet hurt, I'm very tired. But we saw some amazing parts of this beautiful coast. It is so amazing what they can build on a CLIFF. Beautiful hotels, swimming pools, you name it. Just amazing. Great to see!
