2019 Europe w/Wayments - Day 12 - Brussels to London

April 9, 2019

Day 12 is here and I’m actually writing this on a train that feels like it is going backwards since I’m facing the wrong way.  We have departed for London St. Pancras\Kings Cross station.  From there we will take the Piccadilly line out to Heathrow and then an Uber to our apartment for the night.

We were all up early this morning as I wanted to be on the road by 7:30 AM to check the car in.  I had filled up the car last night and had not driven it until this morning.  We were on the road and at the train station by 8:15 AM.  The check in process was easy except that the guy charged me 48 euro extra for gas.  The darn gas gauge showed like I was an eighth down...which was not true and they charged me 12 euro per liter of gas....4 liters.  What a robbery...but what do you do.  I find these guys over here who work in these professions quite criminal.  And I think being an American has a lot to do with it frankly.  They know you can’t speak their language and kind of do what they want.

The drive into downtown Brussels will be the only time we see central Brussels.  The train station that we are going out of is not quite in the center of town but fairly close.  It has large building all around as you can imagine.  But I suspect there is an old part to it also.

Our train left at 10:56 AM.  This was the time that we also could check in to our flights tomorrow.  So both couples were scrambling to get seats quickly in hopes it made a difference on where we were placed and if we would sit together.  The good news is that Kim and Ilene got seats together going to Phoenix.  The bad news is that Denise and I did not.  Denise is really frustrated by this.  But there is nothing that I could do to fix that or control that.  But I plan to ask at the gate tomorrow to see if there is anything that can be done to get us together.  Kind of odd that one couple is together and the other not.

Tonight we will go back into London to see Les Miserables.  I don’t know if I’ll have time to blog after as we will not get back to our flat until late and will need to get ready to get up early, get to the airport and then fly home.  Crazy last two days but all worth it....it has been a great trip.
