2023 Kauai, Hawaii - June - Day 3 - Lazy day in north Kauai.

Day 3 is in the books.  The rooster started crowing at about 3:30 AM, off and on.   I tried to sleep, and did a little bit, until about 5:30 AM and then I just started reading and thinking about how I’d like to wring its neck.   I eventually called the front desk and all they can do is tell us a story about chickens getting out of cage and not being caught and how they now out populate humans.  They also tell you that mongooses were being sent but that the ship containing them allowed something to happen and they all went overboard.  If you believe that, I have some beach front property to sale you in Nevada!  The customer service here is quite lacking.  They all give the standard answer…we are completely booked and they will speak with their supervisor.  But they do nothing as I’ve spoken with them twice.  I honestly would not come back and pay this kind of money to have them tell us that our quiet time is at 10 so the chickens can start crowing the rest of the night!  I’ll quit my complaining now!

We decided to go to another ‘snorkeling’ beach called Anini Beach.   But it was not so good.  It was too shallow for too far out which made it difficult to get to a deep area where any coral existed.  There was a bit of sea life but nothing like the beach yesterday (Tunnel Beach).   We spent a couple of hours there and then packed up and headed back towards our place.  Part of the road close to the beach was a dirt road and full of some very deep potholes.  We bottomed out a few times in our low riding Dodge Charger.

We came back to the condo and headed over to the ‘other’ pool which is actually much closer to our condo.  It is a nice pool with a very nice hot tub.  It was very relaxing.  We also played some cards (Five Crowns) and some Cornhole.   I lost on both occasions.   But it was fun.

After we were done swimming and horsing around, we came into the condo to shower and get cleaned up.  We then decided to find a place to eat.  We ended up at a place called Kalypso’s Bar and Grill.  It turned out that they had some pretty good prices for Happy Hour.  Both couples bought the same, nachos and coconut shrimp.   It turned out to be a lot of food and was pretty good.  After that, we chased it down with another shaved ice from Jo Jo’s.  Now that was yummy again.

On our way home, we stopped at Ace Hardware to buy some ear plugs.  That is our only hope with this darn rooster thing.  We will leave this island hating chickens….they are taking over this island.  They are everywhere.  Ok…said enough about the chickens!

More to come…..

Our nemesis…. Mr. Rooster1

Nachos and coconut shrimp at Kalypso’s….

My bird friend on Anini Beach.  The picture below shows it coming up and eating out of my hand.

I did not mention in my blog above but the were having a farmers market with booths and such.  So we stopped.  We ate a yummy pineapple and cream cheese croissant.  It was delicious as you can see in the 2nd picture below.

This was taken at a stop over looking the Hanalei valley.  You can see Hanalei Bay to the upper right of the picture.

Us enjoying the waterfall in the pool at the resort.

A couple of old folks enjoying some ‘vacation time’ before we do a full time 18 month mission in jolly old England.   It will be awhile before we get these travel opportunities.
