Our hotel last night was very comfortable and WiFi worked great. The location was interesting in that it was by a street of car dealerships. It was fun to walk in the morning and check out used and new cars. The night before, we went to Tesco and bought some things for breakfast. So we ate that up and we were out the door by 10 AM. We tried to leave early but one couple did not get the word so the other 2 ended up waiting. And then we needed to go to Sainsbury so another couple could get some ice and a few things. Finally we got on the road.
We first went to a National Trust Estate named Oxburgh Estate. It was an interesting house with a nice mote all around. Everyone thought the mote was just decorative. However, it turned out that the house was built on the footings of a castle that once stood there and that the mote was actually a defensive mote in its early days. We took a tour with a guide who explained a lot of the house’s history. It was quite fascinating as the house really evolved and the architects over the years did some really strange things. Too many to describe here. But one of the interesting things was that in one of the towers, a duke and his wife…a poor duke…still lives in it.
After touring Oxburgh, we jumped quickly in the cars to get to Anglesey Abbey and Lode Mill. We arrived at 20 after 2 PM and the house closed at 2:30. So we literally sprinted to get there before they closed the door as it was a little bit of a walk to get to the house. I held the lady from closing the door as Scott did his best to get there. He gets tired quickly when doing a lot of walking. But he’s been a champ through all this. The Abbey was interesting with lots of nice rooms and art on the walls. I can’t remember its history much. Everything is just ‘old’ to me any more. I’m getting old. So maybe that is why. After touring the house, we took a walk around the area to see the Lode Mill. We hoped it was actively turning…but no such luck. It was nice looking nonetheless on a nice channel of water.
then hustled to our cars to get to Cambridge and the car park where we were going to park our cars and walk to the river Cam to go Punting. This is a boating activity where a guy stands on the back of the boat and pushes you down the river with a 10 foot, or longer pole. As he does this he is telling you the history of the town and about 6 of the Cambridge colleges that were on that part of the river. It was fascinating to hear about these beautiful buildings and some of the going on’s that happen in these areas. The mile up and mile back trip took about 50 minutes. Well worth the time and money. It was cool and very relaxing…at least for me.
After punting, we headed back to the mall where our cars were parked to drive to our hotel and get Kathy back to attend a funeral on Zoom. Apparently a younger brother took his own life a week ago. I guess he has been messed up his whole life. They were not surprised that this had occurred. But she did not want to miss the funeral. Our journey to the hotel was interesting. We eventually found it though after winding around a bit in a very new area. The hotel is a Hyatt and is amazingly modern and new. For dinner we went to Dutch’s, a bar like thing that served tacos and we all ate tacos that were pretty darn good. It is, however, time to retire and get ready for our last day on this journey.

As we’ve been driving, we have noticed lots of pig farms in the area. And at times we have seen small piglets running around. I guess from here I get my baby back ribs I’ve been eating over here!
